Hero Optima 5.0 Upgraded E-Scooter, Range, Top Speed – 2023

Hero Electric is the OG of electric scooters in India. Before Ola, Ather, and Revolt were even a thing they were selling 10,000+ electric scooters every month. But as governments tightened their Fame 2 policy, they witnessed a sharp dip in their EV sales.

The Hero Optima is one of their best-selling EVs and now we have an upgraded version of the scooter but at a higher cost. Let’s have a look at the scooter:

Design:

The scooter gets a matt finish, a stiff mudguard, 12-inch tires, drum brakes, and a combi braking system. On its side profile, you get the “Hero Optima” branding, a heavy-duty, side-stand and main stand, with the same mat feel that continues all along its body.

It’s got an elongated (stretched) design with air vents in the front, plenty of legroom, bright headlights, and good-looking side indicators.

Display Features:

The display is small but shows various features of the scooter like speed and a trip meter, and because it has 2 batteries it shows 2 battery percentages, a neutral signal, and a high temperature alert. Here are the various features it gets:

  • Cruise Control
  • Regenerative Braking
  • Charging mode
  • Side Stand Sensor
  • High Beam
  • State of charge.

Buttons and boot:

It’s got very generic buttons like a mode switch, indicator, high beam low beam, horn, and kill switch.

On the front you get a mobile phone charging port, hanging hook, key inserter, and front glove box enough to keep stuff and goods.

Battery:

This scooter has a dual-battery setup of 3kWh in total but a small boot space under the seat. A 10A charger that can charge both the batteries in 5-6 hours.

It has a removable battery setup along with a battery lock system.

Warranty and price:

The scooter is priced at 1.37 lakh on the road.

It’s got some interesting warranty policy, which no other company provides.

7 years of Mechanical warranty, which covers the following parts:

  • Chasse
  • Main stand
  • Side-stand
  • Handel bar
  • Swing arm
  • Suspension
  • Wheel rims
  • Brake pad
  • Hand Liver

4 years of electrical warranty, which cover the following parts:

  • Battery charger
  • Hum – motor
  • Instrument cluster

  • And a Lot more

Hero literally covers all the electrical and mechanical parts of its Optima E-scooter which means you don’t need to worry about the scooter and serving after buying it.

Top Speed:

It has 2 riding modes eco and power mode in eco mode it can go upto 45km/h and in power mode it can go upto 65kmph top speed.

Test Drive:

The scooter is comfortable to ride, no doubt about that. But a major red flag in the scooter is, that it doesn’t catch up the speed. The pickup of the scooter is extremely slow. Other than that, the riding quality is great, and all the features work greatly.

Final Verdict:

The Hero Electric Optima 5.0 is a costly scooter but the trade-off is you’ll never have to spend a penny from your scooter after that.
