Tiago EV vs Comet EV: What do people buy the most?
According to a report by cartoq.com the Tiago EV out-sells the Comet EV by a 5 to 1 ratio. To put that in numbers, where Tata sold 10,695 units in the first quarter of 2023 MG could sell only 2,139 units in the same market. Unlike competitors, the Tiago EV has the best sales numbers among Tata’s own electric car inventory.
One could say that the Tiago EV is winning due to its affordability factor, but if that was the reason, the Comet EV is far cheaper. Which means there are other reasons for its success.
- Weak competition: The Comet EV is a relatively weak contender due to its small structure and low service centre availability.
- Fast Charging: Despite being an affordable electric car segment, the Tiago EV has some premium features like fast charging, which is absent in the Comet EV. (Comet recently got the fast-charging update.)
Price & Verdict: Which EV Steals the Show?
Even after the recent price reduction, there’s a significant price difference between the top models of both EVs. The top-end variant of the MG Comet EV is priced at Rs 8.58 lakh, while the Tata Tiago EV’s highest variant comes at Rs 12.09 lakh (ex-showroom).
While the Tata Tiago EV offers more range and power on paper, the compact size of the MG Comet EV might be more appealing to urban buyers. Both models have their strengths, making it a tough choice for consumers. However, the final decision boils down to individual preferences and specific requirements.
